Spirit Truck Lines Pay

Spirit Truck Lines started their operations in 1991 with a small fleet of five trucks. The company’s rapid growth has led to continual expansion and demand for new truckers to fill the company’s rank.

The trucking company offers interstate and intrastate commerce for general commodities.

Family-owned and operated, Spirit Truck Lines is known for its close-knit operations and hands-on approach to business. The two brothers that own the business followed in the footsteps of their father who bought his first truck in 1925.

The company operates in the 48 contiguous states and also in Canada and Mexico. Terminals can be found in:

  • San Juan, Texas
  • Laredo, Texas

If you have no experience working OTR, you can join the three-month training program that pays you $200 to $350 per week as you gain experience. Once you graduate from the program, you’ll be bumped up to the standard pay.

You’ll find a lot of drivers will be driving across the border from Texas to Mexico often. The cross-border transit is easy, with trucks having Texas and Mexico plates. If you want to explore outside of the United States and see Mexico, this is a good opportunity to do it on your employer’s dime.

When driving out of San Antonio, you’ll likely be working in the company’s frac sand division.

If picking up freight from Mexico, it’s often delivered to the northeast. These routes are long, but they offer fewer stops and a lot of time out on the open road.

You can join as a company or contract driver. Reviewers of the company have good things to say, including:

  • Drivers are given new equipment aside from some trailers that you pick up along the way.
  • Every week you have the opportunity to come home; drivers that live south of San Antonio get home every five days or so.
  • Drivers that earn more are often those that don’t mind being away from home for longer.
  • Pay that was mentioned in April 2020 was .42 cpm, with an average of 3,000 miles driven per week and some drivers reaching 4,000 weekly miles.

The downsides of working with Spirit Truck Lines are that there are no safety bonuses or 401(k) options available. Routes are consistent and there’s little time wasted between trips. If you’re a driver that doesn’t mind being out on the road longer, you can make a lot of money – there’s always miles available.

But if you also value home time, the company will have you home weekly to spend time with your family.

Spirit Truck Lines is an option for new and seasoned drivers alike. You’ll find home time is good and benefits are sufficient, but there is a lack of retirement benefits.
