About Matheson

Matheson Trucking

Matheson Inc. is a California-based trucking and logistics company that is contracted with the U.S. Postal Service as mail transportation carriers. The company was founded in 1962 by Robert and Carole Matheson, and it has grown into a thriving operation that specializes in mail transport.

Matheson Inc. started out as a provider for the Postal Service, but they also provided services to commercial carriers. To this day, the company is known for its reputation as an award-winning carrier that hauls and sorts the mail. In fact, Matheson is a top contractor for USPS. But the company has had its share of complications.

Matheson Flight Extenders Bankruptcy

Matheson, which is contracted with the United States Postal Service, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2022 along with their Matheson Flight Extenders division.

At the time of filing, the company had 383 truck drivers and 248 power units.

Changes within the Postal Service and its $6.6 billion private truck contract program had made it more difficult for carriers to stay in business. Switching from contract rates to paying on a mileage basis led to consolidation that forced many carriers to file for bankruptcy.

Today, Matheson and its mail and postal divisions are still contracted with the Postal Service and offer postal transportation services. The company processes more than 53 million pounds of parcels per month.
