Driver Requirements

Cheeseman Transport’s driver requirements are:

  • Class A CDL
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Hazmat and tanker endorsement
  • 3 or fewer moving violations in the last 36 months
  • No serious moving violations in the last 36 months
  • Tractor-trailer experience in the last 6 months

If you do not have your hazmat or tanker endorsement, you must be willing to obtain it to work for Cheeseman.

All drivers are expected to be customer oriented and have a strong focus on safety.

Apprentice Opportunities

Cheeseman Transport is willing to train you and ensure that you have a position with the company through its Classic Apprentice Program. The program requires you to:

  • Be 21 years of age
  • Already have a Class A CDL
  • Live within a 60-mile radius of its terminals in Ohio or South Carolina

Drivers are paid $150/day and will be in their apprenticeship for 10 – 12 weeks.

Mileage Pay

Drivers are paid for all routed miles based on their experience level and where they’ll be driving. Drivers are paid via direct deposit.

Stop Pay

In addition to mileage pay, drivers are also given Stop Pay for customer pick up, delivery, drop/hook, etc. The amount of Stop Pay depends on the service area, but ranges from:

  • $14-$30 per stop

On average, OTR and regional drivers make 4-10 stops per day.

Handling Pay

Cheeseman also offers Handling Pay for blocking/unblocking. This pay is for securing freight in the trailer with blocks and with either a crowbar or a nail gun.

Pay for the securement, handling, blocks and pulling nails is:

  • $1.00 per 1,000 pounds
